2 Weeks of Catastrophe

Dear Diary,

My ‘semi-debut’ single Catastrophe has officially been out for over 2 weeks now! Why do I say ‘semi-debut’ you ask? Well, I’ve actually put out music before but I recently cleared the lot, I felt I needed to start fresh. I took time to actually figure out who I am as a person and as an artist (yup the whole growing up thing can be as cliche as it sounds). This is my first song that feels authentic and true to me, and it’s also the first one people can now listen to on all streaming platforms… So I call it my ‘semi-debut'.’

The response to Catastrophe has been so wonderful! My family and friends have been reaching out, sharing it with other people and even sending photos of them listening to it on car drives. I have been really lucky!! I’ve even done a few interviews, for podcasts, blogs and radio stations!

On another note, the music video is doing really well!! I think it’s on 7000 views now which is so cool considering I made it all by myself with my mum! Yup, you heard that right. I booked an Airbnb and asked my mum (very nicely of course) to come along and take some video for me. It was a hectic process because there is so much that goes into filming and editing a music video.

Releasing music independently is always fun but not always easy, it definitely comes with its challenges. One thing that I feel affects me the most is comparison and self-imposed expectation. Even though it’s currently just me making things happen sometimes I expect results that you can really only get with a full team. I’ve learnt that for my next release I want to give myself a little more time so I make sure I have enough to do everything I want to do. I also know with my next projects I want to give myself more grace and celebrate the little wins.

Catastrophe was such a fun song to write, it came very naturally and I got to be a little funny and over the top with it. My favourite line is

“And i’d be there trying to stay out of sight,

Betrayed by my height, I’d Try be polite”

It’s so funny to me because as a 6 foot girly, it's very hard to go unnoticed sometimes even when you want to fly under the radar hahaha. It’s also my fave line because it’s a little ridiculous like the picture it paints in my head is SO FUNNY.

Anywaysssss, I am so happy that Catastrophe is out, the coolest part is that the little silly song I wrote in my bedroom is now in the hands of people all over the world and it can mean something much bigger than it did when I was at my keys.
